Beschreibung
One of palaeontology's most fascinating and unexpectedly charming specimens — fossilised turtle poo from the Eocene epoch.
Coprolites (from the Greek kopros, dung, and lithos, stone) are fossilised faeces, and they represent one of the most informative trace fossils in the palaeontological record. By studying their composition, scientists can reconstruct the diet, physiology, and even behaviour of ancient animals with remarkable precision. These specimens originate from Madagascar and date to the Eocene epoch, approximately 34–56 million years ago.
Surprisingly colourful and completely odourless, coprolites are a genuinely conversation-starting addition to any natural history collection.
Specimen Details:
- Type: Turtle coprolite (fossilised faeces)
- Size: 15–30mm (approximate range)
- Age: Eocene (34–56 million years ago)
- Origin: Madagascar
- Condition: Naturally preserved; colour, shape, and form will vary
Please note: each specimen is hand-selected from stock within the stated size range. Colour, shape, and surface character will vary as with any natural fossil — the image shown is representative only.
Display & Collection:
A brilliantly accessible entry point into fossil collecting, and an ideal educational specimen for schools, home collections, and cabinet of curiosities displays. Pairs well with other trace fossils, Eocene-era specimens, or as a humorous yet genuinely scientific counterpoint in a broader natural history arrangement.
