About Metallyticus splendidus

Metallyticus splendidus is one of the most extraordinary and scientifically significant praying mantises in existence. The sole member of the ancient family Metallyticidae — considered the most basal lineage within the entire order Mantodea — it represents a living relict of mantis evolution, retaining primitive characteristics not found in any other living mantis family. Native to the rainforests of Southeast Asia, splendidus is immediately distinguished by its spectacular iridescent metallic colouration — shimmering blues, greens, and purples across the body and legs — that is utterly unique among mantises and gives the species its name. Exceptionally rare in collections and of profound evolutionary interest, this is among the most coveted mantis specimens in the world: a genuine centrepiece for any advanced entomology cabinet or natural history display.

Perfect for entomologists, natural history collectors, educators, artists, interior designers seeking authentic Victorian cabinet aesthetics, and anyone passionate about the extraordinary diversity of the insect world.
