About Matuta victor

Matuta victor, commonly known as the flower moon crab, is a beautifully ornate sand-burrowing crab widely distributed across the Indo-Pacific, from the Persian Gulf and East Africa through to Southeast Asia and the Pacific. Its circular, flattened carapace is elegantly patterned with a distinctive arrangement of red spots and markings on a pale cream to white background — a delicate, flower-like ornamentation that gives this species its evocative common name and makes it one of the most aesthetically refined crustacean specimens available to collectors. Adapted for life in sandy substrates and shallow coastal waters, it is a swift and agile swimmer, using its paddle-like rear legs in a manner similar to swimming crabs. Its exceptional patterning, clean circular carapace form, and outstanding visual elegance make it a truly distinctive and desirable addition to any natural history collection.

Perfect for marine biologists, natural history collectors, educators, artists, interior designers seeking authentic cabinet-of-curiosities aesthetics, and anyone passionate about the remarkable diversity of the natural world.
