About This Specimen

Lonchura punctulata is the most widespread munia in Asia — distributed from India and Sri Lanka through southern China, Southeast Asia, and the Indonesian archipelago, and one of the most successfully introduced estrildids in the world, now established across Hawaii, Australia, Puerto Rico, and beyond. The specific epithet punctulata means ‘finely spotted’, referring to the species’ characteristic scaly breast pattern — each feather tipped with a dark crescent creating a precise, overlapping scale-like effect that gives the species both its scientific and common names.  A precise, scientifically significant, and comparatively essential addition to any serious natural history collection or ornithological study.

Perfect for ornithologists, naturalists, natural history collectors, educators, artists, and interior designers seeking authentic specimens with genuine scientific and aesthetic value.
