About Hierodula patellifera – Brown Form

Hierodula patellifera, the Sacred Mantis, is a robust and widely distributed praying mantis found across South and Southeast Asia. While the species most commonly presents in vivid green, a natural brown colour form occurs — typically associated with drier or more exposed habitats — and it is this less frequently encountered variant that makes this specimen particularly appealing to collectors. The brown form offers a striking contrast to the typical green specimens found in most collections, with warm earthy tones that lend it a distinctive and naturalistic aesthetic. A rewarding and uncommon addition to any Mantodea collection or natural history display.

Perfect for entomologists, natural history collectors, educators, artists, interior designers seeking authentic Victorian cabinet aesthetics, and anyone passionate about the extraordinary diversity of the insect world.
