Cut & Polished Ammonite Single Section | Cleoniceras sp. | Cretaceous | Madagascar

One of nature's most perfect geometric forms, revealed in cross-section — a cut and polished Cleoniceras ammonite from the Cretaceous of Madagascar.

Ammonites are among the most iconic and immediately recognisable fossils in the natural world. These cephalopod molluscs inhabited the world's oceans from approximately 240 to 65 million years ago, disappearing in the same mass extinction event that ended the non-avian dinosaurs. Cleoniceras is a genus of Cretaceous ammonite particularly celebrated for the vivid colour and intricate suture patterns revealed when the fossil is sectioned and polished.

Each specimen has been carefully sliced and polished to expose the internal chambers — the septa — that once regulated the ammonite's buoyancy. The result is a striking display of natural geometry: radiating chambers in warm amber, russet, and cream tones, framed by the characteristic spiral of the outer shell.

Specimen Details:

• Species: Cleoniceras sp.
• Age: Cretaceous Period (~100–125 million years ago)
• Provenance: Madagascar
• Preparation: Cut and polished single section to expose internal chambers
• Available sizes:
  • Small: 60–80mm
  • Medium: 100–120mm

Each specimen is hand-selected from stock within the stated size range. Colour, patterning, and chamber detail will vary as with any natural fossil — the image shown is representative of the quality and character you will receive.

Display & Collection:

Exceptionally versatile as a display piece — striking on a shelf, desk, or as part of a curated fossil cabinet. The polished section catches light beautifully and makes an immediate impression. Pairs well with whole ammonite specimens, other Cretaceous fossils, or as a natural art object in any interior.
